Information Sent Directly
Search terms
A name, place, or other term entered into a search widget is sent to the third-party provider operating that tool. New Hanover County Busted Mugshots does not store or log those search terms on its own systems. The partner’s privacy policy governs its handling after submission.
Messages
Emails or contact submissions may include the sender’s address and the text needed to answer. Messages are kept for reply and support. They are not shared outside the organization unless disclosure is legally required or needed to protect rights and safety.
Technical Data and Cookies
Like most public web services, a page load may create routine technical records:
- IP address and approximate network information.
- Browser type and version.
- Device type and operating system.
- Pages visited and time spent on them.
- Referring site, when a referrer is provided.
- Access dates and timestamps.
Cookie choices
Cookies may help understand how visitors use the service and can support site functions. Browser settings can block or delete them. Some features may behave differently when cookies are disabled.
How Information Is Used
- Keep the pages available and improve speed.
- Send a submitted search to the appropriate partner service.
- Learn which pages are useful to visitors.
- Find errors, abuse, and technical problems.
- Show advertising that may be relevant to interests.
These purposes do not make the service a government record custodian. Official New Hanover County custody, police, court, NCDAC, BOP, and ICE records remain with their originating offices.
Links and Advertising Partners
Pages link to the New Hanover Sheriff P2C roster, the Sheriff’s records portal, Wilmington and beach police resources, New Hanover eCourts, NCDAC, federal locators, news outlets, and third-party search tools. Once a visitor leaves this service, the destination’s privacy policy controls. The service does not control another site’s content, security, cookies, or retention.
Advertising partners may use their own systems to measure activity across sites or deliver interest-based ads. That tracking happens under their terms and tools, not through control by the New Hanover Sheriff or another official record office.
Who May Receive Data
Personal information is not sold by this service. It may be available to:
- Search partners that process a submitted query.
- Analytics providers that measure visits and performance.
- Advertising networks and their service vendors.
- Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires disclosure.
Security Limits
Reasonable standard security practices are used, but no internet-connected system is completely secure. Transmission and storage cannot be promised breach-proof, and no method eliminates every risk.
Visitors Under 18
The service is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If a minor submitted personal information, a parent or guardian may contact the service to request deletion.
Your Privacy Requests
Depending on applicable law, a person may ask to:
- See a copy of personal data held here.
- Correct inaccurate contact information.
- Request deletion where retention is not required.
- Opt out of certain processing or marketing uses.
Send a request through Contacts. A request to change an official booking, court, or custody record must go to that record’s originating office.
Notice Changes
This Privacy Notice may be revised as practices or legal requirements change. The updated text and a new effective date will be posted here. Using the service after an update means the revised notice applies.
